DOMINATE YOUR HOCKEY TRYOUTS
If you want to dominate your hockey tryouts, make sure the coaches notice you and make the team. This is a post and checklist that tells you EXACTLY what you need to do.
I’ve included a tryout checklist for you below. These are things that you have to do if you want to stand out and get noticed.
Also, there are some bonus items below as well.
HOCKEY TRYOUT CHECKLIST
- SCORE: Whether you are a forward or a defenseman, you need to create 5 good scoring chances and bury at least one of them.
- ASSIST: Get the first assist on a goal where you made the play.
- BLOCK SHOTS: You should block a minimum of 2 shots. Ideally, 3-4.
- FINISH CHECKS: Finish 5 solid checks that separates the player from the puck. It doesn’t count if they have already moved the puck. Move your feet and get to the player while they still have possession.
- SHOTS ON NET: Get 5 shots on net. A shot that misses the net doesn’t count.
- 50/50 PUCKS: If you and another player are racing for a lose puck you need to get there first and win that battle at least 7/10 times (70%).
- DEFENSE: Don’t forget about solid defense. If you don’t backcheck or you get beat 1 on 1 nothing else you do matters.
- If you do these things every game of your tryouts, regardless what position you are, you are almost guaranteed to make the team. I’ve never seen a player not make a team after doing these things.
BONUS DETAILS FOR YOUR HOCKEY TRYOUTS
- ATTITUDE: Have a positive attitude on the bench. Coaches look for this, instead of complaining or getting pissed at other players for missing a pass, be positive, encourage other players, bring positive energy on the bench. Coaches don’t want selfish complainers, even if you are having a great tryout this could hurt you.
- BODY LANGUAGE: Your body language tells a LOT about you. Don’t slam your stick or pout…EVER. If you make a mistake don’t act like it was your sticks fault, hustle back and recover.
- BEFORE/AFTER GAME: Are you screwing around acting like an idiot before or after the game? Coaches notice this.
